Obituary

Harry Junior Long, 95, of Sullivan passed away Saturday November 30, 2024 in his residence with his wife and son by his side. He was born August 5, 1929 in Muncie, Indiana to Harry F and Ruth M. (Stoneburner) Long. Harry is survived by wife, Mary (Smith) Long; daughter, Theresa Bailey (Larry); son, Michael Long; bonus daughter, Kim Figg (Jeff); bonus sons, Gary Smith (Jeanne) and Brent Smith (Deb); sisters, Maxine Sutton (Freddie) and Betty Wilson; brother, Leon Loong (Vicki); brother-in-law, Robert Steed (Rita); grandchildren, Lauren Dillion (Ty), Alisha Ross (Trey), Kayla Watts (Nicky), and Ryan Watts (Nicole); 10 step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 18 step great-grandchildren, one great great step-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Neldythe (Shaw) Long; sisters, Ruth Johnson and Martha Fredricks; brothers, Wayne Long and Larry Long; sin-in-law, Dan Watts infant granddaughter, Thelma Long and an infant grandson. Harry was a Korean War veteran of the US Navy, having served aboard the USS Mendora. After the Navy, Harry worked various jobs as a Teamster. He retired after 20 years with Vigo Liquors and he had worked for NAPA Auto Parts and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Harry spent 50 plus years in the summer at Dietz Lake and 27 years in the winter at Stonehedge Park in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was a 61 year member of the Riley Masonic Lodge #390 F.&A.M. and a 50 plus year member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a lifetime member of the Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW. Harry was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Palm Harbor, Florida and attended Crossroads Community Church in Sullivan. He enjoyed coin collecting, shuffleboard and dancing. And Harry dearly loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday December 4, 2024 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with a Masonic memorial service provided by Riley Masonic Lodge #390 starting at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday December 5, 2024 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor Dirk Shaw officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
