Harold "Gene" Eugene Finley, 74, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022.  He was born July 22, 1948 in Paris, Illinois to Harold W. Finley and Mary Rose Curran Finley.  He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws (Orval and Lillie Wheeler).  He is survived by his loving wife of 42 wonderful years, Bonnie Finley (Wheeler), daughter Kate O'Meara (Finley) and her husband Robert, grandchildren Isaiah and Mary-Rose O'Meara, sister Anita (Jim) Cheesman, "in-laws and out-laws" and numerous family and friends.

Gene worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 30 years and along the way, made numerous life long friends and received several awards.  Once he retired, he became a valued substitute teacher in Vigo County.

He married the love of his life, Bonnie, on June 2, 1979 and together they had a daughter Kate on April 29,1986.  He enjoyed traveling with his family and visiting his grandchildren.  He was always there for anyone who needed him, providing advice and help to countless folks over the years.  He had a strong belief in equity and equality for all.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Temple, located at 5301 South US Highway 41 in Terre Haute.  Services will be on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Pastor Chris Gadlage will officiate.  In lieu of flowers you may honor Gene by donating to the 14th & Chestnut Community Center or VCSC backpack program.  Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
