Gloria Jean Tompkins, 82, of Terre Haute passed away on June 5, 2013 at 5:48 a.m. in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born on July 23, 1930 to John Bailey and Bertha Killebrew. She graduated from Glenn High School in 1949. She married her husband, William Tompkins in 1950. Gloria dedicated her life to Christ at the age of 14. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and later joined Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an Usher and served on the Mother Board. Gloria enjoyed roller skating, baking, jigsaw puzzles, and a great love for collecting giraffes. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband William Tompkins in 1995; her parents; grandson Todd Tompkins; great grandson Marquis Potter; 7 brothers; and 5 sisters. She is survived by her 3 children Eric Tompkins, his wife Vivian, Edward Tompkins, his fiancé Sherry, Linda Potter, and her husband Tom. Big Mommy to 9 grandchildren Tammy, Eric Lee, Alicia, Derek, Alex, Brooke, Karen, Brayden, and Bryce; 10 great grandchildren; brother LC Killebrew; aunt Marilyn Henson; sister-in-laws Sophia Tompkins and Kathy Bailey; special daughter Jacqueline Wilson; special friends Helen Thomas, Eunice Osborne, and Cindy Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 2415 8th Avenue. Rev. Dennis Manual will be officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. The family has entrusted Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home 2425 Wabash Ave, will making arrangements.
