George Knezevich Jr., 83, of Terre Haute passed away at Union Hospital on June 17, 2014. He was born on April 29, 1931 in Clinton, IN. He was the son of George Knezevich and Yvonne Wailly. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Margaret (Peg) Knezevich, his parents, his brother Billy Gilbert, and his sister Sandra Jean Snow. He was a devoted and loving father to George P. Knezevich & wife Ellen, Delight A. Allen, Diann M. Sekerak, Garri M. Knezevich, Denise R. Knezevich, Dollie M. Underwood & husband Dave, and Gene F. Knezevich; several grandchildren Matt J. Knezevich, Luke Knezevich, Richard Allen, Laurelei Allen, Jennie Darling, Sam Underwood, Clayton Underwood, Andrea Aleshire, Blake Knezevich, Brandon Knezevich and Bailey Knezevich; five great-grandchildren Gabriel Allen, Caleb Darling, Christian Darling, Amueri Knezevich, and Nadali Knezevich; brother Ron Gilbert; several nieces and nephews; and loving companion over the past few years Iantha Adams. He graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech High School in 1949. George served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 in the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was an employee and manager of Clark Wholesale Florist for over 45 years. He was also the proprietor of George's Flower Farm. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish since 1951 and was involved in several activities in years past. He was a member and past president of the Athletic Booster Club, coached football and basketball for over 25 years. Later on, many children that he coached and mentored are now community leaders. He was a lifetime member of VFW #972 and American Legion #104, and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. George was the recipient of Heze Clark Award from Rose Hulman and the St. John Boscoe Medal in 1972 along with many other awards for his service in the community. On December 12, 1986, the mayor of Terre Haute, signed a Mayoral Proclamation as George Knezevich Junior Day. George loved everyone and he was loved by everyone. He didn't know a stranger. He had a heart of gold and made many life-long friends from Sacred Heart Parish, Friends Forever, and other organizations within the community. He had a good life. He enjoyed traveling, outdoors, gardening, family, and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, June 19, 2014 at DeBaun Funeral Homes Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Ave., from 4:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary being said at 7:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus, with a special prayer following. There will also be a visitation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2322 N 13th ½ Street, on Friday June 20, 2014 from 10:00a.m. until mass at 11:00a.m. There will be a graveside services at Calvary Cemetery following the mass with military honors.
