Gene W. Harris, 92, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday August 18, 2016 at 11:55 pm in Springhill Village. He was born January 21, 1924 in Brazil, IN to Nellie and Walter Harris. After graduating from Brazil High School he entered the Air Force and served for three years in the Pacific Theater during WWII, thereafter in 1946 he went to Indiana State University and graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree and later worked on his Master's degree. He taught high school science near St. Louis for several years, he then later joined ITT Continental (now Wonder Bread) were he worked until retirement in 1986. He is survived by his children, Larry Cooley, Paul Hiles, and Gayel Cooley; a sister-in-law, Julye Harris and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Cooley in 1985, his second wife, Mary Hiles in 2000, daughters, June Kracy, Pat Mundy, and Marilyn Solooki and his brother, Walter Harris. Gene was an avid golfer. Visitation will be Sunday August 21, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services on Monday August 22, 2016 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor Tracy Sutliff officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.
