Gayla Foote (Uhey), 70, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 29th surrounded by family. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Gayla will always be remembered for her kind nature and devotion to her family.
Born on June 29th, 1954, in Clinton, Indiana to Dick and Peggy Uhey, Gayla was the eldest of three children. She was a graduate of Terre Haute South High School and Indiana State University. She became a cherished teacher for the Vigo County School Corporation, teaching business math at Chauncey Rose and North High School. Her passion for teaching impacted the lives of countless students.
On June 16th, 1973, Gayla married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Michael Foote. The two shared a beautiful journey that lasted nearly 52 years and yielded two children and four grandchildren. Together they would become owners of the Paris, IL Dairy Queen in 1997. She had a passion for traveling, camping, and her devoted Jack Russell Terrier, Roscoe.
Gayla is survived by her husband, Michael, sons Ryan (Stanley) Poorman and Christian (Kimberly) Foote, grandchildren Alex Foote, Rowan Foote, and Syanna Poorman, all of Terre Haute. She is also survived by her mother, sister, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dick Uhey, brother, David Uhey , grandson, Jasper Foote, and special grandparents Roscoe and Velma Foos.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gibson Hospice as well as her sister-in-law, MaryAnn Grady for their professionalism, love, and support.
