Fred William Thomas, Jr., 77, of Terre Haute passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026. He was born on August 1, 1948, in Terre Haute to Fred W. Thomas, Sr. and Margaret Fields Thomas. Fred was a 1966 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. He joined the Marines right after school and served until 1975. Fred is a Viet Nam Veteran. After serving his country he was a correctional officer at the Federal Prison, retiring after 30 years. His nickname at the prison was “Crime Dog”. He then was the shop manager for the Skids & Pallets project at the Putnamville Correctional Facility. Fred also served in the Indiana Air National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, looking at cars, and playing Spades on the computer. Fred was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sue Thomas, children Fred W. Thomas, III, Ambra Waggoner, and Tiffany Thomas, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren with one on the way; siblings George Thomas (Delitha), Donald Thomas, and Jennifer Gallegos (Ben), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Edgar House, Ronald House, and Connie House.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Service will begin at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Kevin Szwarga will officiate.
