Evelyn Nichols
Krockenberger
Evelyn A. Krockenberger, 91, of Terre Haute, fell asleep on September 9, 2013 at Peddle Park and awoke in Heaven. She was greeted there by Jesus, her husband Walter, son Don, and old friends and family who had gone before. Evelyn was born on April 12, 1922 in Terre Haute to Marion Edgar and Sarah Emma Inman. She married Ezra Nichols in 1939 and they had two sons, Wayne and Donald Nichols. She worked as a telephone operator long and hard while rearing her sons. She retired after 35 years of service. Later in life she met and married Walter Krockenberger, a super nice man, they only had 3 years together before he passed away, but they were the happiest years of her life. Evelyn loved music and flowers. Many times she would work from early morning to late evening in her flower beds. She promised her flowers that if they would bloom pretty, she would take them to church, and that she did, 2 bouquets every Sunday. Evelyn played piano at her church for years. She helped form an orchestra at 10th and Hulman Wesleyan Church and it lasted for many years. She also had a kitchen band that played in many local nursing homes each month. She sang with the Sweet Adeline's Choir for several years as well. More recently she played piano on Monday nights for a sing-a-long at Peddle Park. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Walter, sisters Violet Inman, Blanche Inman, and Beulah Barbee, brother John Inman, and son Don Nichols. She is survived by her brother, George Inman, son Wayne Nichols and wife Cindy, daughter-in-law, Mary Nichols, sister-in-law, Mary Inman, grandchildren Bob Nichols and wife Joyce, Lynn Patterson, Leah Campbell and husband Wes, and Sara Bateman and husband Mark, nine great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and two very special friends, Frances Sanders and Madonna Nichols. Visitation will be Thursday September 12, 2013 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr., with funeral services on Friday September 13, 2013 at 1:30 pm in the funeral home with Reverend Harvey Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.
