Ernie Johnson, Jr., 88, of Farmersburg passed away Wednesday August 31, 2016 in his residence. He was a retired farmer. Ernie was born February 29, 1928 in Farmersburg, IN to Ernie Johnson and Mary F. (Starkey) Johnson. He is survived by daughters, Susan Holmes (Gary) Farmersburg) and Mary Lisa Hudson of Farmersburg; a son, Dan Johnson of Farmersburg; a sister, Mildred Bush; grandchildren, Kenzie Johnson, Cole Johnson, Tammy Haenlein, Dustin Holmes, Lauren Hudson, and Kayla Hudson; great grandchildren, Tristan, Bella, Lilly, Audrey, Ethan, and Oliver; and additional family members, Barbara Johnson and John Hancock. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Belle Louise Johnson who died February 27, 2005 and two sisters, Rosalie Bailey and Justina Davis. Ernie was a member of Farmersburg United Methodist Church, he enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren and he was a huge St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. Ernie saw a huge change in farming, from harvesting corn by hand with his father to using a computerized combine to do the harvesting. Visitation will be Friday September 2, 2016 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Blansett officiating. Burial will be in Farmersburg West Lawn Cemetery. If friends so desire the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to either Farmersburg United Methodist Church or the Arthritis Foundation.
