Obituary

Elisabeth "Liz" Ford, 86, was born on June 14, 1939, in Augsburg, Germany, to August Sick and Teresa (Kaufman) Sick.  She grew up alongside her two brothers, August and Gottfried, and her three sisters, Wally, Anne, and Hildegard.

Liz was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Ford.  The two met while Richard was serving in the military and stationed in Germany.  Together, they moved to Terre Haute, where they built a life and raised their four children.

Liz dedicated over 20 years of service to Columbia House, where she took great pride in her work.  She was known for her strong work ethic, never missing a day or arriving late – even during blizzards.

Above all else, Liz cherished her family.  Music to her ears was being called "Oma", the German word for grandmother, by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Even her grandchildren's friends lovingly knew her simply as Oma.

Liz loved to cook and made sure no one ever left her home hungry – often feeding everyone the moment they walked through the door.  Holidays were always filled with love, laughter, and plenty of food.

Affectionately nicknamed "Lucky Liz", she enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casino, often walking away a winner.  But the greatest winners were her family, who were blessed with the time and memories they shared with her.

She is survived by her children: Traudie Wilkins (Ed), Richard "David" Ford (April), Robert "Bob" Ford (Donice), and Teresa Ford; grandchildren: Michael Wilkins, Cassie Wilkins, Chelsea Hathaway, Josh Ford, Robi Ford, Chris Ford, and Austin Ford; great-grandchildren: Gillian Wilkins, Ellie Wilkins, Leslie Miller III, Lillian Hathaway, Dayton Hathaway, and Cade Hathaway.

Liz will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her love, generosity, strength, and the warmth she brough to everyone she met.

Visitation for Liz will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Service will begin at 4:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Liz's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  Online condolences may be made at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
