Elaine Mabel (Thorpe) Collins, 78, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 4:43am at Cobblestone Health Campus in Terre Haute.  Elaine was born on February 25, 1941, in Enterprise, Oregon.  She was the oldest child of Melvin and Aletha Thorpe.  Elaine graduated from Enterprise High School in 1959.  She married Daniel Collins on February 12, 1966 at St. Katherine Church in Enterprise, Oregon, he survives.

Elaine was proud of being a wife, mother and homemaker.  She loved to make crafts, especially needlepoint.  Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved making cookies while listening to holiday music. In the past she had been very active in the St. Joseph Olney Ladies Guild and Richland County Home Extension groups.  Recent pastimes included watching game shows on TV, especially Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right, and counting the hummingbirds, that she loved, that would visit her feeder.   Elaine was often reading a good murder or romance novel or listening to her favorite singer, Johnny Mathis.

Elaine is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, Danny of Terre Haute; daughter Jenny Kocher and husband Chris, of Terre Haute; grandchildren Ben and Emma Kocher; sister Lucille (Barry) Sorensen, of North Bend, Oregon; brother Homer Thorpe of La Grande, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Aletha Thorpe.

Visitation will be held at 11 AM with services starting at 12:00 PM on Saturday January 18, 2020 at DeBaun Funeral Home at 85 E. Springhill Dr. in Terre Haute.  A celebration of life will also be held in Wallowa County Oregon at a later date.
