Tuttle
Elaina M. Tuttle, 52 of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:30 AM on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at IU Health Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Nashua, NH on November 9, 1963 to Raymond Tuttle and Ingeborg Leichsenring Tuttle. Elaina was Associate Dean and a Professor at ISU. She is survived by her husband Rusty A. Gonser, and her son Caleb Gonser. Also surviving is her mother, and brother, David K. Hudson (wife Denise), mother-in-law, Jean Gonser, brother-in-law Shane Gonser & family, and sister-in-law Jeana Gonser & family, as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She received her BS from Siena College, her PhD from the University at Albany in Albany, NY, and did postdoctoral research at Indiana University and the University of Chicago. She taught at St. Mary's College of Maryland prior to arriving at ISU. Among Elaina's many accolades have been awarded the 2006 Promising Scholar at ISU, recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Teacher Award, The Theodore Dreiser Distinguished Research and Community Award, as well as the ISU's highest honor the Presidential Medal. She was published in several scientific journals in relation to her 27 year project with white throated sparrows in Adirondacks of NY, Fairy Wrens in Australia, and was Associate Editor for AUK. She also researched several NIH and NSF awards and grants and was co-founder of The Center for Genomic Advocacy and Genetic Counseling Program at ISU. She enjoyed painting taking photos, watching her son play soccer, and making Halloween costumes, as well as traveling in general and listening to music while on relaxing drives. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr., Terre Haute, IN on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 3:00 PM, with Will Worthington presiding. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM and again from 4:30 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the PINK foundation, the Dr. Elaina M. Tuttle Memorial Scholarship, C/O the ISU Foundation, or the Caleb Gonser College Scholarship Fund, C/O of Fifth Third Bank.
