Obituary

After a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer, Edward Kirby, 67 of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord at 10:45 AM on Wednesday, February, 5 2014 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute on April 15, 1946 and was preceded in death by his birth parents Hershel and Lucille Kirby, parents Eugene and Shirley Kirby. He is survived by his step-mother Essie Kirby. He was a true servant of God and a living testimony. He was eager to share his faith with all. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee,, and Sunday School Superintendant. Edward had a passion for hot rods, and classic and antique automobiles. He had a love for carpentry, welding, machining, camping, bowling, and watching old western & sit-coms. He was a "jack of all trades and a master of all." Edward had a witty sense of humor that he would share with his friends and family. He graduated from Honey Creek High School, and after graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 3 years. During his tour of Viet Nam, he received 2 Purple Heart Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. "ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE." "Semper Fi." He worked at J. I. Case for 18 years and at Crane Naval Weapons Support Center when he retired. He is survived by his wife Linda (Ligon) Kirby. They were married for 44 years. He is survived by his children Branden and wife Danielle, Dustin and wife Dereth, & his daughter Jessica and husband Mike. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; Christian, Victoria, Tanner, Shianne, Daphne, Darcy, Charlotte, and Jonathan. Other survivors include 7 siblings; Jeannie, Sharon, Cindy, Sheila, Steve, Gary, and Owen. He was blessed with several nieces and nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Gene Jeffers officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Forest Park Baptist Church, in his memory.
