Obituary

Edna House Higbee, 94, of Terre Haute (formerly of Fairbanks) went to Heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 9, at Westridge Healthcare. She was born in Hymera, Indiana to Dewey House and Ethel Moody House on January 4, 1921. Edna attended eight different schools during her early years and graduated in 1939 from Garfield High School. She and Loren Milligan Higbee were married in 1940 and moved to the family farm in the country, where they lived in the same home for over sixty years. Edna was a member of Fairbanks Missionary Baptist Church for 78 years. She had been a Sunday School teacher, BYF Sponsor, Bible School teacher, and hosted missionaries and pastors and their families in their home during that time. She had also been a member of the Women's Missionary Society; and for over 40 years she was a Deacon's wife and prepared Communion monthly. Her other activities included membership in the Art Guild, GIFT (Growth in Fairbanks Township), and the Sullivan County Historical Society. Some of Edna's hobbies and interests included oil and acrylic painting, homemaking, writing poetry, working on her autobiography, collecting Native American jewelry, and caring for her pets. She especially loved all animals. She was a wonderful cook and loved entertaining. Edna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Loren who passed away in 2003. She is survived by her son Joe (Kim) Higbee of Liberty Township, Ohio, daughter Judy (Roy) Williams of Terre Haute, grandchildren Janine (Keith) Collier of Indianapolis, Troy (Hope) Williams of Heidenheim, Germany, Heather Higbee of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Erin (John Paul) Jamieson of Holly Springs, North Carolina. In addition, she is survived by six great grandchildren: Alex , Elijah, Emmelia Katharina, Lauren, Riley Sue, and Lucas. Visitation will be Sunday April 12, 2015 from 2:00 until 6:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with funeral services on Monday April 13, 2015 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Gilaspy and Rev. Don Ransford officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests support of and donations to the Sullivan County Humane Shelter.
