Obituary

Dorothy Mae Tevlin, 84, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her home on December 11, 2025.

Born on June 2, 1941, in Terre Haute, Dorothy spent her life deeply rooted in the community she cherished. She attended school at Garfield and later worked at Bemis and as a waitress at Bonnie's Cafe. For a time, she also lent her support to Deming Elementary School. However, her most treasured role was that of a homemaker—raising her children and creating a warm and loving home where family always came first.

Dorothy was a devoted member of Unit #346 American Legion Auxiliary and proudly served as a past 6th District President. Her commitment to service extended further through her involvement with the Chapeau of Boone County Salon #896 of the 8/40. She also volunteered at the Danville VA, offering her time and compassion to veterans in need.

Dorothy had a zest for life that was evident in the simple joys she embraced. She loved going out to eat with family and friends and never passed up an opportunity to go shopping and she enjoyed traveling. But above all else, she found her greatest happiness in spending time with her family. Her face would light up with the biggest smile during family gatherings—moments she looked forward to with heartfelt anticipation. She was very much looking forward to her new great-great-grandbabies.

She is survived by her children Oscar Tevlin Jr. (Evelyn) and Rose Tevlin; son-in-law James Shelton (Terri); grandchildren Joanie, Mary, Christopher Shelton (Robyn), Rondell Shelton (Brittany), Michael (Amy), Sarah Higgins, Jesse Tevlin (Heather), Amber Garrett (Richard), Emily Butts, Paige Snavely, (Paul), and Joshua Tevlin (Heather); great-grandchildren Jassmine, Shanelynn, Austin, Dalton(Lillie), Justin (Shyann), Damon, Kamryn, Jordynne (Jordan), Sophea, Sydnie, Tobi, Kyle, Cody, Dalton (Evie), Shelby, Elizabeth (Triston), Madison (Jerry), Aaryana (Ware), Zane, Serenity, George, Hayden, Paizley, Bonnie, Briana, Kyleigh, Taylor, Amaru, Adonte, Isabella, Joey, Tristin, Jameson, Harley,  Mason; and great-great-grandchildren, Aria,Delilah, Rosalie, Addeline, Makinna, Bentley, Nash, Ariella, Avani, Aniyah, Jerry, Alizae, Mason, and Lilith.
