Dorothy Jean Thomas, 94, of Terre Haute passed away on October 20, 2017 marking the end of a life well lived with many blessings. Dorothy Jean was born to Bill and Lois (Lyon) Holmes on March 24, 1923. She married Seibert Dressler Thomas on July 23, 1949, and they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past summer. They welcomed two daughters: Ann (Brad) Auker and Stacey (John) Burkey. Dorothy Jean was proud to be Mimi to her grandchildren; Rimsey Ranken, Abbey (Derek) Wheeler, Allison (Drew) Hintz, Rebecca (David) Zaborowski, Gwen Burkey, Jordan Auker and Alexandra Auker. She was also blessed with twelve great grandchildren.
Dorothy Jean grew up 1n Brazil. Indiana, were she graduated from Brazil HS in 1941. She continued her education and graduated from Indiana State University with a teaching degree in business. She taught for 7 years. Dorothy Jean was well known for her talents in the kitchen and in hosting the perfect party. Cooking was one of her favorite hobbies, but she also enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a master at spotting four leaf clovers. Dorothy Jean was a member of Delta Gamma, Centenary Methodist Church, The Guild, PEO, Honey Creek Garden Club, Women's Department Club, and a volunteer at Florence Crittendon Home. Most importantly, she was a gracious friend to all those that knew her and made friends with all those she met. Dorothy Jean is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 12:00pm at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. David Brown will be officiating and burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
