Obituary

Donald Joseph Evelo, 76, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday evening, July 15, 2015. He had been battling Parkinson's Disease for several years. He was the son of the late James and Katharine (Kalber) Evelo. He was the beloved father of Staci Minton (Scott) of Terre Haute, Derek Evelo (Stephanie) of Indianapolis, and Leslie Evelo (Jill) of Cincinnati. He was the brother of George ("Skip"), James ("Jay"), and Mike Evelo, and of Mary Ellen Fears. Don was also the loving grandfather of Zacharey, Isaac, Daniel, and Sarah Minton, and of Elijah, Asher, and Andrew Evelo. Don worked for many years in sales for Motor Freight, Consolidated Freightways, Yellow, and Fed Ex trucking. Most recently, he worked for Baesler's Market as one of the "Baesler Boys," filling and delivering grocery orders. He enjoyed that job perhaps most of all, and customers came to love his welcoming, warm, and witty presence. Don will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, humor, and lighthearted and gentle spirit. He knew no strangers and touched many lives. He loved and was loved deeply, and he will be sorely missed by his family, friends, caregivers, and all who knew him. Services will be held at St. Benedict's Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 22. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon with mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 222 N. Summit St., P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, OH 43699-0086. Donations may also be made to McMillan Adult Daycare Center, 486 1st Ave., Terre Haute, IN, 47807. Don's children wish to thank both agencies for the loving care they provided to their father.
