Obituary

Dolores Eicher Sawtelle, 94, of Corydon, Indiana passed away Friday, July 18, 2025. She was born February 23, 1931, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Richard Eicher and Clara Romecki Eicher.

She was a graduate of Erie Business College and worked before marriage and motherhood at the General Electric Company in Erie, Pennsylvania. After she raised her children, she worked at Ernst and Whinney and Applied Computing Devices, Inc. in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Dolores enjoyed creative sewing for her daughter and granddaughters, designing many stunning ensembles over the years. She and her husband spent many happy years with the family on camping trips, hiking and backpacking out West and the Appalachian Trail in the East.  Dolores enjoyed sailing with the family on Lake Erie in Pennsylvania and Lake Monroe in Indiana. She enjoyed playing golf, volunteered at a soup kitchen in Terre Haute, and while living in assisted living she cared for other seniors.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward S. Sawtelle, brother Gerald Eicher, and brother-in-law Neil Mays.

Survivors include her daughter Catherine Thorpe of Corydon, Indiana; sons Steve (Diane) of Olathe, Kansas; Tom (Renee) of Penrose, Colorado; Bob (Missi) of Corydon, Indiana and Eddie (Chris) of Terre Haute, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; sisters Grace Cairns (Bud) of Ligonier, Pennsylvania and Elaine Mays of Yorktown, Virginia, and a sister in law Arlene Eicher.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church located at 111 S. 9th Street in Terre Haute. Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church and entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 111 S 9th Street, Terre Haute, the Carmelite Monastery, 59 Allendale, Terre Haute, or the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation, a foundation that protects vital habitat and species through land acquisition, habitat restoration, and education, 402 W.
