Obituary

Dilip Ambaji Shinde, 75, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2025.

Dilip was born April 21, 1949 in Mumbai, India to Ambaji and Manorama Shinde, growing up as the second youngest of six brothers. Upon studying and obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry at S.S. & L.S. Patkar College, he came to America in 1975 and started working for Ampacet in Mount Vernon, New York. He married Pratima Shinde in 1979, and was blessed with a daughter Ranjita in 1982 and a son Sachin in 1992. He transferred with his company in 1990 to Terre Haute, Indiana, where he found a warm and welcoming Indian community to call home. He retired from Ampacet in 2014 after 38 years of service.

He loved spending time with his family and found joy in audiovisual media, watching and listening to Hindi movies and music and dabbling in photography. He was a passionate cricket fan, always tuning in whenever Team India was playing. His fascination with learning about and observing nature motivated him to maintain feeders and houses for the local birds and tanks for a wide variety of fish. He was also an avid foodie, sampling all kinds of Indian sweets and cuisines.

He was beloved for his sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Pratima, daughter and son-in-law Ranjita and David Weaver, son Sachin Shinde, and grandsons Dylan and Bryce Weaver.
