Obituary

Dr. Deward D. "Pete" Peterson, 93, passed away January 1, 2018 in Westminster Village Health Center in Terre Haute.  He was born December 14, 1924 to George and Elizabeth Johanns Peterson in Grand Meadow, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brother; Francis, Gerald and Delmer, his twin.  Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Kerr Peterson, son Jerald Peterson (Stephanie) of Terre Haute, daughters;  Janet Peterson of Terre Haute, Linda Kelly (Jim) of St. Louis, two grandchildren; Katie Moulton of Oakland, California and Hannah Peterson of Terre Haute and great-grandson Jacob Mickelson of Terre Haute.

Dr. Peterson served in WWII as a private in Pre-med school at Nichols General Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.  He earned  his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School serving his internship at Anker Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota.  During the Korean War he was a medical examiner and flight surgeon as a captain with the Air Force in Japan.  Upon leaving the Air Force in 1952 he was a pathology resident at Kansas Univerity.  He served his radiology residency at Indiana University, Indianapolis.  Dr. Peterson was on staff at the radiology department at the Marion County General Hospital in Indianapolis for ten years.  He was in  private practice for 20 years with Wabash Valley Radiologists serving  Union Hospital, AP&S Clinic, Mary Sherman Hospital in Sullivan, and Greene County Hospital in Linton.

He was a private pilot and aviation historian belonging to many medical and aviation organizations.   Dr. Peterson was a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 83 and a member of the Noon Optimist Club.

Per his request cremation was chosen.  DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.  A private graveside service will be held at Roselawn  Memorial Park at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital Foundation,  P.O.
