Obituary

Dennis Hughes Foster, 91, of Terre Haute passed on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. He was born March 10, 1924 in Burna, Kentucky, to Vernon Caldwell and Bertha Lee Kelly Foster. He was preceded in death by his wife Helga Hirsch Foster, whom he married on August 2, 1947. Dennis was a WWII Veteran. He was an Army Sergeant who served in Europe, and was a Veteran of the invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach. He retired from Wabash Fibre Box Company after 37 years as a machine operator. Survivors include a daughter, Denise Starbuck and her husband Randy of Terre Haute; and two sons, Harold Foster of Terre Haute and Vernon Foster of Jasonville. He has five grandchildren, Jagger Foster, Nicole Moyer (and husband Thom), Dennis Johnson, and Ryan Starbuck; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brasen, Reagan, and Rilynn. Dennis was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 972 and he and his wife were lifetime members of the Oberlander German Club, where he remained an active member and volunteer at the Straussen and October Fests. He loved a good polka and German waltz. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and just being outdoors. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn Cemetery, with military Rites performed by VFW Post # 972. Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
