Dean Milton Ferris, 95 of Terre Haute, passed away in his residence at 1:25 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born in Marshall, IL on November 8, 1920 to Charles Ferris and Irene Nay Ferris. Dean graduated from Marshall High School in 1939, and was a 23 year Veteran of the U. S. Air Force, having served in WW II. He also worked for NASA & retired after 22 years of service there. He is survived by three sons; William Dean Ferris of Yorktown, VA, David E. Ferris of Prairieville, LA, and Tom Ferris (Connie Speer) of Terre Haute. He is also survived by four brothers; Lloyd Ferris (Joan) of Indianapolis, Keith Ferris of Marshall, IL, Michael Ferris of Charleston, IL, and Richard Wallace of California, and two sisters; Rita Michael of Indianapolis and Judy Ferris of Paris, IL. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Lou Dugger Ferris on July 7, 2011, two daughters-in-law; Carolyn Ferris and Susan Ferris, and siblings Melba Schartel, Bob Ferris, and Woody Ferris. Dean was a member of Prairie Park Baptist Church, was an avid bicycle rider well into his 80's, and he also enjoyed watching and identifying different species of birds. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Allen McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Indiana Patriot Guard standing to honor Dean. The family would like to thank Viaquest Hospice and Westminster Village for the care & compassion shown while they cared for Dean.
