Obituary

Darrell A. Roundtree, age 83 of Terre Haute passed away at his home on August 14 th , at 7:37 am. He was a Teacher and Principal at Pimento Elementary, then became the Principal of Hoosier Prairie Elementary School from 1979 to his retirement in 1998. His deep passion for helping children and their families kept him working for the Vigo County School Corporation in various roles in his 20 years since retirement through March of this year. His life stood as an example for so many, his love of teaching and helping kids to be successful has impacted thousands over the course of his decades in Education. Darrell was born in Jasonville, Indiana on March 18, 1935 to Thomas E. Roundtree Sr. and Abbie Gayol Zink Roundtree. Survivors' include two sons and a daughter-in-law; Mark A. Roundtree, of Wyoming, Kevin G. Roundtree and Elizabeth "Libby" M. Roundtree. One granddaughter Grace E. Roundtree, two grandsons, Graham V. Roundtree and William D. Roundtree. Very special friend Barbara Webster, deeply loved by our entire family. One brother, Earl Roundtree; two sisters Shirley Toney Tucker and her husband, Robert Tucker, Sandra Roberts and her husband, John Roberts; a brother-in-law Floyd Hinds along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue A. Graham Roundtree and their daughter, Beverly S. Roundtree. Four brothers; Thomas E. Roundtree Jr., Murl Roundtree, William E. Roundtree and John R. Roundtree. Four Sisters; Rosemary Fautley, Barbara Ragland, Gail Fieldan, and Nancy Hinds Four sisters-in-law; Erma Roundtree, Marilyn Roundtree, Pat Roundtree and Janet Roundtree. Four Brothers-in-law; Arthur Fautley, Arlie Fieldan, Bob Ragland and Donald J. Toney. Darrell was a Veteran of the United States Army, graduate of State High School, a graduate of Indiana State University with both under graduate & graduate degrees in education as well as a graduate of the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy. He served the community in multiple local, professional & Veteran Organizations, as well as being a very active member of St Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm Friday August 17th at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday August 18th at St Stephen's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church; Hospice of the Wabash Valley, or to the Charity of your choice. His passing will leave a tremendous void in our hearts and this world, he will be loved and missed by so many – forever.
