(Stanfield) Carter

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Connie Carter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Born to Jess and Nellie Stanfield on October 4, 1943 in Terre Haute, IN., Connie lived a life full of love, faith, and family. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.
Connie met the love of her life, Robert W. Carter II, in 1976, and they were married on February 16, 1985. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a devotion that spanned decades. Connie is survived by her loving husband, Robert; her children, David McCowen, Cheryl Cottrell (Rick), Scott McCowen (Regina), Jessica Minnett (Barry), and Robert W. Carter III (Nina). She was preceded in death by her sons, Richard McCowen(Debbie) and John (Joppy) McCowen (Vicky).
Connie was a proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren: Joe, Nikki, Amber (Scott), Kayla (Blake), Ashley (Andy), Brittany (James), Johnna, K'Nesha, Ka'Vonna, Ka'Deisha, Zachariah, Tre', Jaylen, Carter J, Jedidiah, Cassiuss, Cadence, and Collette. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren, whose lives she brightened with her warmth and joy.
A devout Catholic, Connie's faith was a guiding light in her life. She was known for her love of family, always finding joy in hosting gatherings and spending time with her loved ones. Her talents in the kitchen were legendary, particularly her stunning cakes "Connie Cakes" and Potato Salad which became the centerpiece of many celebrations. Connie was also an avid crafter and collector, finding beauty in creating with her hands.
Connie's spirit, love, and dedication to her family will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and creativity will continue to inspire her family and friends.
A service to celebrate Connie's life will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home at 85 E. Springhill Dr. Terre Haute, IN 47802 on Friday, September 6, 2024, with visitation from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Services begin at 1:00 pm and the burial proceeding at Grandview Cemetery.
