Christopher Kevin
Brown
March 13, 1960 – February 9, 2022
Christopher Kevin Brown, 61, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2022, at Union Hospital due to complications related to heart failure. Chris was born on March 13, 1960, in Terre Haute, Indiana. At ten days old, he was adopted by his loving parents, Robert and Juaneeta Brown.
Chris, or "Brownie," as his friends knew him, was a proud graduate of the Terre Haute South Vigo High School Class of 1978 where he especially enjoyed his time in the pool as a member of the swim team. After a lot of fun and a little bit of going to class, he graduated from Indiana State University in 1984 with a BS in History. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega and an active participant in yearly homecoming activities. After college, Chris found the best place to apply his talents was broadcasting. He worked his way up at WTHI Channel 10, eventually directing the newscast and later was the evening & weekend newscast director for WTHR Channel 13 in Indianapolis. In 1990, to the relief of his mother, he finally moved out of his parents' house and married the love of his life, Julia. The two shared many years of love and laughs—most of the time, it was her laughing at him. Together they raised three children: Morgan, Carson, and Delaney—Chris's pride and joy. In 2002, he got the chance to be a stay-at-home parent after he chose to leave his career in broadcasting and pursue his master's degree in History. He was a fun & familiar face in their schools and at their extra-curricular activities. After completing his master's, Chris went on to work as an adjunct instructor of History, American Government, and Political Science for Ivy Tech Community College.
Chris was a loud, goofy, and sometimes obnoxious teddy bear who was full of love and light. He enjoyed attending the Indy 500; listening to Jimmy Buffet; cheering on IU, the Bears, and the Colts (and always being overly optimistic about next season); searching for the perfect fried tenderloin; arguing about politics; going to the beach with his wife; chilling with his dogs; annoying his children; and spoiling his granddaughter.
Chris is survived by his mother, Juaneeta B. (Jennings) Brown; his wife, Julia B. (Broglin) Brown; his children, Morgan (Sean) Reardon, Carson (Catherine Rink) Brown, and Delaney Brown; his granddaughter, Eloise Jo Reardon; nieces Beth (Andy) Mong and Kimberly (Jackie) Hamilton; great-nieces Olivia Mong, Avery Mong, Sophia Mong, Abigail Hamilton, and Quinn Hamilton. He was proceeded in death by his father, Robert E. Brown, and brother Mark A. Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate in Chris's honor to either Hospice of the Wabash Valley or the American Heart Association. If it were up to Chris to tell you where to direct your money, we know he would request you to donate it to anyone running against Joe Biden in 2024.
Per his wishes, Chris will be cremated and his family plans to spend time over the next year leaving his ashes in his favorite places: beaches and racetracks. In addition, they plan to host an open house "memorial luau" in Chris's honor starting at 2pm on Sunday, March 13 (his birthday) in the lower-level Fellowship Hall at Centenary UMC located on N 7th St in Terre Haute. The family requests that you do not wear black, but instead bright colors, as Chris preferred a wardrobe of neon colors, Hawaiian shirts, and swim trunks.
