Charles "Chuck"
Woodsmall
December 16, 1926 – February 26, 2025
Charles "Chuck" Woodsmall Jr., 98, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, after a brief illness. Chuck was born December 16, 1926, to Charles and Edith Woodsmall. He was the youngest of six siblings: Juanita, Pauline, Dorothy, Evelyn, and John, who all preceded him in death. He attended Shelburn schools, graduating in 1945. When Chuck met the love of his life, the late Margaret June Woodsmall, he wanted to marry her after only a week of courtship. She turned him down, but he was persistent in his own kind, gentle way, and they married on Aug. 18, 1948, at Mount Pleasant Church in Terre Haute. Together, they raised four children. Chuck had a long, successful career as Western Tar Products' star chemist for 50 years. Throughout their time together, Chuck and June never lost their sense of adventure. They moved several times, took trips across the United States and Europe, became snowbirds in Florida, and were always up for something new. They even joined and "toured" with the Terre Haute Senior Citizens Kitchen Band. Chuck was the pianist, and June chimed in on the triangle. Chuck was a lover of many things, including his family, music, card games, and a good dessert. He was a longtime member of the Prairieton Masonic Lodge and served as master. Chuck attended several churches over the years, including Dean Avenue Christian Church, the Prairieton Methodist Church, and Farmer's Chapel. In his later years, he was a resident of The Commons of Honey Creek, where he quickly—but unsurprisingly—became a social butterfly thanks to his lovely piano playing and quick wit. He enjoyed getting visitors, if they could catch up with him in between bus trips and activities. Chuck is survived by his four children, David Woodsmall (Jill), Sue Ross (Jack), Lou Ann Thiel (Martin), and Mark Woodsmall (Beth); fifteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
