Obituary

Charles (Randy) Slinkard, 67, of Terre Haute, Indiana, died at 2:50 a.m. on October 4, 2013. He was born February 23, 1946 to Laura and Harry Slinkard and is survived by his wife Ma Alma (Alma) Barcelon Slinkard and her son John; his children Lorrie Best and her husband Dan, Matt Slinkard, Heidi Slinkard, and Shaun Slinkard and his wife Ashley; grandchildren Amber Hughes, Jeff Perry, Dustin Perry, Matt Slinkard, Alex Holloway, Raven Holloway, Derek Holloway, Jackson Brasher, Colin Brasher, Carter Slinkard, and Jacob Best; and great-grandchildren Kaden Perry, Kayleigh Perry, Khanar Perry, Aaliyah Perry, Destiny Perry, Landen Perry, Kolten Perry, Hayden Perry, Ethan Perry, Logan Perry, Jencie Hughes, Clayton Hughes, and Hagen Hughes. Randy was predeceased in death by his daughter Shirley Slinkard; parents Harry and Laura Slinkard; grandparents Charles and Nancy Slinkard; and Aunt and Uncle Betty and Fred Miller. Randy was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he spent his entire life until his marriage to Alma in 2007. Following their marriage, the two also spent substantial time in Zamboanga Del Norte, Philippines. Randy spent his 67 years in Terre Haute involved in various groups and organizations, including the Cloven Hoofs and Diablos Motorcycle Clubs, the U.S. Army, various archery clubs, the Masons, Shriners, and Scottish Rite, and the Wabash Valley Girls Softball League, where he helped establish the league and build the fields. Randy was behind the wheel for most of his life, from driving for Gibson Coal and Chesty's foods and his own semi as a young man, to driving for Ulrich Chemical until they put him in an office in his midlife, then back to a semi, then dump truck and wrecker in his older years. He was always the most at ease on the open road, whether for relaxation on a Harley and later a Gold Wing or old pick-up truck, or for hire in a semi or commercial truck. He enjoyed archery in his early years and then took up the sport again in his retirement, most recently flying in from the Philippines to shoot in the state and national archery tournaments this February and taking 1st in Indiana and 3rd in the nation for his class. Randy was previously married to Jean Petty, Marilyn Stultz, and Linda Francis, but found much love and happiness during his later years with his wife Alma. He enjoyed operating the wrecker business with her at his side and watching her garden and try to keep him in line in her spare time. He also enjoyed their time together with Alma's family and friends both in the Philippines and the US. Randy's visitation will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home, Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Avenue on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in the name of Charles "Randy" Slinkard to the Wabash Valley Girls Softball League, P.O. Box 5435, Terre Haute, IN 47805.
