Obituary

Catherine M. "Kit" Shane, formerly of Farmersburg, Indiana was called to her heavenly home on October 2, 2023, at the age of 98. Born on June 19, 1925, to Stephen and Celia (Parker) McCarty, she grew up in Newlight, LA.  Kit attended college in Albuquerque, NM, where she met the love of her life, Air Force 2nd Lieutenant John "Jack" W. Shane, who she married on August 3, 1946.

Jack and Kit moved to Terre Haute, IN in 1950, where they resided before relocating to Farmersburg in 1972. They joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terre Haute in February of 1951. Kit continued to faithfully serve the church and the Lord for 72 years. She was the Administrator of Pipe Trades Industry Health and Welfare for 25 years and a proud member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 for 45 years, marching annually in the Labor Day parade.

A proper southern lady, she was strong, humble and patient. Known for her kindness and generosity, Kit always found room in her home and her heart for those she met, who usually left with a "to-go" Tupperware full of leftovers.  She had a fabulous sense of style, wearing coordinating sets and heels into her 90's, and lip stick to the end.  She met any adversity in her life head-on with her stoic and peaceful nature, always coming through the other side, while calming those around her.  Above all, she will be remembered for the kind, wise, and loving soul that she was.

She joins in Heaven her husband; infant daughter, Betty Jean; granddaughter, Tina Larson; her parents; 1 brother; and 4 sisters.  She is survived by her children, Beverly "BeeBee" Larson, Lafayette, IN; Kenneth (Marcia) Shane, St Cloud, MN; Ruth "Rudie" (John) Butler, Farmersburg, IN; grandchildren, Bryan (Pamela) Shane, Spokane Valley, WA; Kelly Reichel, Sartell, MN; Troy (Gail) Larson, Crown Point, IN; Dustin (Danielle) Butler, Fort Myers, FL; Cody Butler, Farmersburg, IN; seven great grandchildren, and her very special caregiver, Abbie.  She will be missed by all that knew her, but the lessons she passed on will remain.

The family would like to thank the staff at Breckenridge Commons in Sullivan, IN for treating Kit like family for the past four years.

In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness or make a charitable donation in Kit's memory.

Visitation will be held on Monday October 9 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at DeBaun Funeral Home in Terre Haute. The Funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 10 at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terre Haute.
