Brian Douglas
O'Connell
August 2, 1959 – February 27, 2026
Brian Douglas O'Connell, 66, passed away on February 27, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Terre Haute, the son of William J. O'Connell and Judith M. Cannady. He was the oldest of seven children.
In his twenties, Brian made his way to Texas where he met Tammi Passeri in Austin, Texas. Brian and Tammi developed a great friendship and together had a daughter, Keegan. He lived in Texas and Florida for a number of years before returning home to Indiana in 1996.
Brian was an experienced and talented carpenter, and led a long career in carpentry and construction. Many friends and family benefited from his expertise, and they treasure the projects Brian completed for them, from decks to kitchens to a wooden changing table he built for Keegan that she used for all three of her children, Brian's grandchildren.
Brian enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and spending time with family and friends at the family cabin in rural Sullivan County. He was a member of the Brothers of the Woods. The last few years of Brian's life were made better by his fiancé Debbie Barnes and a renewed faith and relationship with Jesus Christ.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Judith O'Connell. He is survived by his daughter, Keegan (Matt) Hand and three grandchildren, Riley, Ellie, and Darby. He is also survived by his six siblings: Jennifer (Larry) Latham, Eileen (Jason) Downing, Shawn O'Connell, Riley (Kim) O'Connell, Bridget (Steve) Hinesley, and Patrick (Yuna) O'Connell. He was also a proud uncle to nieces and nephews: Daniel O'Connell, Sarah Downing, Brendan (Emma) O'Connell, Nathan (Cassidy) Bashaw, Jacob (Madison) Latham, Eileen O'Connell, and Colleen O'Connell. He also had several great nieces and nephews.
