Obituary

Billy L. "Bill" Woodsmall, Sr., 91 of Riley, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 5:20 AM. He was born in Riley Township on December 8, 1925 to Homer Woodsmall and Betha Price Woodsmall. Bill was a veteran of WW II, having served in the Marine Corp and was a farmer. He was a former member of the Sullivan County REMC/WIN Energy Board (24 years), and also served as President of the Indiana Statewide REMC Board and was given a Sagamore of the Wabash Award. In addition, he also was a former Member of the Vigo County Fair Board and was involved with various 4-H programs for many years. Bill was a member of VFW Post # 972 and Riley American Legion Post # 328. He is survived by his wife Doris Thompson Woodsmall, whom he married September 27, 1952, and their children: Billy Woodsmall, Jr. Gregory Woodsmall (Peggy), and Lisa Frank (Chris). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Megan Woodsmall-Reece (Jarrod), Lance Frank (Stacey), Kylie Frank, and Caleb Frank, as well as two great grandchildren, Levi Frank and Tristan Reece. Other survivors include his siblings Roy Woodsmall (Delores), June Bechtold, and many nieces and nephews, including devoted nieces Sherry Lamb, Sandy Esker, and Karla Holt, caregiver and friend, Judy Henderson, and former daughter-in-law, Phyllis Woodsmall. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Woodsmall, and his wife June, and a great nephew, Scott Holt. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Riley American Legion Post #328. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Indy Honor Flight or the charity of choice.
