Betty Compton, 84, of Sullivan, IN went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 10:45 AM in Southwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on June 8, 1929 in Pimento, IN to Homer and Bivarene Reuter Smith. Betty and her husband Bernie met at Quaker Maid and married in May of 1948. They moved to California in 1957 and opened Jiffy Market. In 1971, they moved back to Indiana. Betty worked at Great Scot-County Market until she retired in 1994. Betty was a long standing member of the Farmersburg Church of Christ. Survivors include: one son, Dave (Dorothy) Compton of Terre Haute; one daughter, Debra (Ted) Klouser of New Jersey; two granddaughters; Lisa Compton of Sullivan and Gina Volpone of New Jersey; one great-granddaughter Aryana Paley of New Jersey; three step-grandsons and seven step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Nancy (Paul) Anderson of Lexington, KY and Barbara Smith Newsome of Terre Haute; one brother, John (Anita) Smith of Evansville and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bernie; her parents Homer and Bivarene; four brothers, Bob, Ed, Com, and Earl Smith. Funeral Services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Mitch Hoesman officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Farmersburg. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 10:00 AM -1:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel.
