Benny E. Smith, 71, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Union Hospital.  He was born September 28, 1948 in Rockville, Indiana to Walter and Ruby Smith.  Benny was the youngest of nine children.  He was an avid fisherman and mushroom hunter.  He was also a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and local sports great Brady Shoemaker (son of Brian and Lori).  Benny proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

Benny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rebecca Smith, daughter Gina Sluss (Bob), son Ryan J. Smith (Brittany Fritz) , grandchildren Christopher Sluss (Jessica) , Ella Fisher (Zack), Eli Sluss (Rachelle), Grace Sluss,  Beau Smith and Roman Smith; great grandchildren Alec Sluss, Aubrey Sluss, Autumn Sluss,  Wyatt Fisher, Alexandria Fisher, Waylon Fisher, Charles Sluss and Madelyn Sluss, ; brother Melvin Smith, sisters Mary Ellen Stansberry, Delores Wilson (Edward), and Doris Venters (Delbert).  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward Smith and William Smith; sisters Lillian Austin and Corrine Phelps.
