Alta Mae Walls, 94, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 in the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care following a hemorrhagic stroke.  She was born on September 6, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana to James and Opal Tate.  Alta married Robert Gene Walls on June 18, 1950 in Terre Haute, Indiana.  They were together for 68 years before Bob's passing and were blessed with three children.

Alta was a homemaker for many years before beginning her career in the office of Rueben H. Donnelly.  After her retirement from R. H. Donnelly, she began working part time as a receptionist at Harborside Nursing Home, a job she called her "dream job".

Alta enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, hosting holiday meals, gardening, and was an avid reader.  For the past 8 years she has resided at Westminster Village where she met many friends that she cherished.

Sher was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob, a sister Velma Jean Phillips, her parents, and recently her son, Robert Jay Walls.  She is survived by her daughter Debbie McKay (Dwight), son Dan Walls (Debbie), daughter-in-law Angela Walls, and a brother James Tate.  She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael Walls (Jessica), Kris Tuberosa (Donovan), Tasha McCoy (Zach), Holly Verdeyen, Ryan McKay (Lindsay), Halee Clinkenbeard (Conner), Mackenzie Cooper (Tristin), and Darren Zaremba.  She also enjoyed 18 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Alta will always be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help family and friends.  She was a member of Union Baptist Church.  Services will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rod Maris officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alta can be made to Union Baptist Church.  Online condolences may be made at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
