Alma "Amy"
Anna Watson
March 3, 1924 – January 9, 2024
Alma Anna "Amy" (Fick) Watson, 99, passed away on January 9, 2024, at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus in Terre Haute after a long life and a brief illness. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 3, 1924, to Charles and Carrie Fick. She grew up in West Terre Haute, Indiana, graduated from Valley High School in 1942, and attended Indiana State Teachers College.
She married Frank Alan Watson, the love of her life, on May 10, 1947. The young couple operated a commercial flight business in St. Louis, Missouri, located where the Gateway Arch is now, but moved back to Prairie Creek, Indiana, in 1950 so that Alan could run the family farm. She remained married to him for over 72 years until his death in January 2020.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Ruth Pell and brother Howard Fick; her husband (died in 2020); her son, Dan Watson (died 2021); and her daughter Paula (Watson) McHenry (died 2023).
She is survived by her grandchildren Nathan Watson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Matthew (and Kara) Watson of Springfield, Illinois; Rachel Brynsvold (and Eric) of Austin, Texas; and Daniel McHenry of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Amy spent more than 60 years as a farm wife and loved living on the farm, assisting her husband, and raising her family.
She was a pillar of First Prairie Creek Baptist Church for over 60 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and in many other capacities.
Her daughter-in-law Lonna Watson and her son-in-law Walter McHenry are in agreement that marrying into the Watson family was a sanctifying experience and that Amy's sweet and gentle spirit was a major reason. Both can attest that they are better people for having married a child of Amy Watson. She loved and was loved by everyone she knew.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m. at First Prairie Creek Baptist Church with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Prairie Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Prairie Creek.
