Obituary

Allen A. Riggs, 96 of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:30 AM on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Cobblestone Crossings. He was born in Shelburn, IN on August 27, 1920 to Benjamin Riggs and Bertha Ault Riggs. Allen was a retired mechanic with Pfizer & Co., and was a member of Oregon Baptist Church. He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army, having served under General Patton, and was part of the 3rd wave during D-Day in Normandy. Allen is survived by three sons: Richard Riggs (Deanna), Ron Riggs (Jeanette), and Gregg Riggs (Ruth). Also surviving are five grandchildren: Cindy Shidler (Estel), Carla Riggs, Emily Gonzalez (Erick), Bethany Gisel (Dan), and Kelly Meuser (Mark). In addition, there are seven great grandchildren surviving: Matthew Shidler (Jennifer), Jonie Shidler, Adrian Gonzalez, Lucas Gonzalez, Daniel Gisel, Mathew Gisel, Tytus Gisel, and James Meuser, special neighbors Bo and Christy Stinnett, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a special niece, Patty Wright, with whom he developed a special bond. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Leah Case Riggs in 2001, infant son Randall Riggs, grandson Bradley Jenkins, and siblings Ben Riggs, Irene Thompson, Lucille Siscoe, and Charles Riggs. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Fred Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Oregon Baptist Church, in his memory. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Dr. Mendoza and the entire staff at Cobblestone for the excellent care given during his stay there.
