October 18, 1927 - January 9, 2016 Alex Edward Fleschner, 88, of Terre Haute, went home to be with His Lord January 9, 2016. He was born October 18, 1927, in Terre Haute to George and Bertha Walls Fleschner. Survivors include his former wife, Helen (Austin) Fleschner of 35 years and their four children: Mark E. Fleschner and Debbie Fleschner of Terre Haute, Kevin Fleschner and Summer Acord of Terre Haute, Rob Fleschner and Judy Fleschner of Florence, South Carolina and Julie Fleschner of Franklin, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Jordan Fleschner, Stephanie (Fleschner) Frame and Luke Frame, Laura (Fleschner) Stewart and Caleb Stewart, Aaron Fleschner, Evan Fleschner, Mark Fleschner, Rachel Fleschner, Robbie Fleschner and Arysson Acord; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Fleschner, Asher Frame; brothers, George Fleschner, Ernie Fleschner and wife Mary Alice; sisters, Alice Steward and husband Joe, Joan Jacks and husband Jim, and Janet Krueger; brother-in-law Robert Halt; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Roberta Huber, sister, Iva Sandberg, sister, Kiva Halt, brothers-in-law, Art Sandberg, Treat Huber, and John Krueger; sisters-in-law, Irene Fleschner and Joan Fleschner. Alex served in the US Armed Forces, military branch Army, from 1950-1952. While there, he served as Military Police and First Cook. He remained a cooking enthusiast the remainder of his life. Alex was a coal miner for more than forty years and retired from Amax Coal Company, United Mine Workers Local Union No. 1423 in 1992. He was an avid gardener and always enjoyed the fruits of his labor by generously sharing fresh veggies with family and friends. In addition to his formal employment, he enjoyed working on tractors and automobiles. He could fix nearly anything and make it work. He was a member of Faith Wesleyan Church, formerly Greenwood Street Wesleyan Church and attended Maryland Community Church much of his retired life. A celebration of life service will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home on January 13, 2016 at 12 noon., with Rev. Ray Austin and Rev. Dr. Mark E. Fleschner officiating. Visitation will be 10 am until service time on Wednesday, January 13. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the entire staff at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus and ViaQuest Hospice for the compassionate care that was provided over the past several months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lighthouse Mission, in his memory.
