Ada Ruth Short, 68, of Terre Haute passed away at her residence.  She was born January 8, 1954, in Terre Haute to Robert and Marjorie Smith.  Ada Ruth attended Garfield High School until her senior year when Terre Haute North opened.  She was among the school's first graduating class.  After high school she attended Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois where she obtained her teaching degree.  Ada Ruth taught elementary school in Maryland before returning to Terre Haute.  Once back home she had a vital role in the Union Hospital Child Development Center for many years.  She then went on to work at the Wabash Independent Living and Learning Center.  Ada Ruth loved to help people.  Many of her clients knew her and could always count on her dedication and support.  She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.  Ada Ruth was a very giving soul and will be missed by so many.

She is survived by her brothers John Smith (Jo Ann), Timothy Smith (Susan), sisters Martha Smith and Betsy Stevenson (Alan), as well as several nieces and nephews.  Ada Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and her son Michael Short.
