Abel J Hickmon, 35, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023. He was born January 30, 1988, in French Camp, California to Greg Hickmon and Arlene Honeycutt. Abel attended Pana, Illinois Sr. High School, graduating with the class of 2006. Abel served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California from June of 2006 to June of 2010 with the1st Battalion 5th Marines. He served two combat tours overseas from fall of 2007 to spring of 2008 and May - December of 2009. Abel married his high school sweetheart, Kylie M. O'Brien May 9, 2009, in San Diego, California. Abel graduated from Park University, California with his Bachelors in business management in 2014. He proudly worked for the Bureau of Federal Prisons starting at FCC Victorville in California in October 2012, transferring to USP Lee Virginia in August of 2014. Abel and his wife made the decision to move closer to home in August 2016 when he transferred to FCC Terre Haute, Indiana.
Abel is survived by his wife Kylie, children Amelia (9) and Elijah (7), parents Greg Hickmon (Linda), Arlene Honeycutt, Brothers Lee Janson (Antoinette), Sean Janson ( Rose),in-laws Tom O'Brien (Anita), Deanna Thompson (Brian), Derek Thompson (Nancy), Daniel Thompson, Tom O'Brien ( Jessica), Bree Jones (Alex), Bryson Thompson (Megan) Brooklyn Thompson (Lori), Aislyn Roe (Josh), Ariah Roe. In addition, Abel is survived by 9 nephews, 6 nieces and 5 great nieces whom he loved so very much.
Abel was proceeded in death by his Grandma Rose and many Marine Corps and Bureau brothers. "Until Vallhalla"
Abel enjoyed running, working out, reading, learning, watching movies and playing board/video games. Most of all Abel loved spending time with his wife, children, and family. From teaching Amelia herbology, the solar system and supporting her competitive cheer to teaching Eli how to play baseball, basketball, and kick his butt at Fornite and nerf gun wars. He was an exceptional father who loved unconditionally. The family's Labrador Tyson, who proceeded him in death was a loyal companion.
Military Honors will be held Friday April 21, 2023 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel located at 85 E Springhill Drive, Terre Haute at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting all monetary donations be made to DeBaun Funeral Home in care of his children's continuous education fund.
