R. Don Cloutier, 79, of Farmersburg passed away Saturday December 2, 2017 in Regional hospital. Don was born in Terre Haute on April 7, 1938 to Jack and Carol (Watson) Cloutier. The family moved to the Farmersburg area because Don wanted to be a farmer and he lived the rest of his life there, except for the four years at college. He graduated as Valedictorian from Farmersburg High School in 1955 and from Purdue University School of Agriculture in 1959. Preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jordan Lyday, Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pamela. Also surviving are their children, Dawn Cloutier-Jones (Charlie), Jill Lyday, Rob Cloutier (Karen); seven grandchildren, Andrew Cloutier, Evan Lyday, Rachel Souders (Jeff), Laura Ridge, R.D. Cloutier (Kayleigh), Spencer Ridge (Morgan), and J.D. Cloutier (Kailee); six great-grandchildren, Tanner Cloutier, Tyler Cloutier, Ryker Ridge, Katielynn Cloutier, Kallie-jo Cloutier, and Jordyn Lyday and a sister and her two sons, Jean Gallagher and Brian and Andrew Gallagher. In his youth, Don was very active in 4-H. Later in life he continued to work with the 4-H program, serving on the 4-H Council and 4-H Fair Board. He was also on the Sullivan County Airport Board. Don was a life-long farmer, a result of a “4-H project that got out of hand.” He especially enjoyed dairy cows, but also grain farmed. He was a gun enthusiast and greatly enjoyed his great-grandchildren, who have become the light of his life. A memorial service to honor Don’s life will be held January 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sullivan County 4-H building. DeBaun Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
