Norman Werner Hemmrich, 85, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. He was born July 7, 1932 to Herman and Margaret Hemmrich. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 59 years Rebecca Ann Hemmrich, who passed away May 4, 2017. He is survived by one daughter, Janet Thornton (Andy) of Midland, GA, and two sons David Hemmrich (Genie) of Terre Haute and Steven Hemmrich of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by granddaughters Allison Hutchinson of Griffin, GA and Kaitlyn Tatum of Virginia Beach, VA and by grandsons Seth and Samuel Hemmrich of Terre Haute, Joshua Hemmrich of Virginia Beach, VA and Michael Thornton of Columbus, GA, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.
Norman was a graduate of Wiley High School served as an active U.S. Navy Reservist before receiving graduate and post-graduate degrees from Indiana State University. He worked as an accountant for Quaker-Maid, Tri-Industries, Stran Steel and Carrier-Transicold. While living in Terre Haute he attended Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) and Youngstown United Methodist Churches. He was a member of Christ Community Church in Columbus, GA.
Services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2017 at DeBaun Funeral Home in Terre Haute. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. The Reverend Terry Stevens will officiate the service beginning at 2 p.m..
