Marjorie Young Obituary

Marjorie “Mardy” S. Young, 68, of Terre Haute passed away Friday, September 27, 2019 in her home surrounded by her family following an astounding and courageous 16 year battle with Alzheimer ’s disease.

Mardy was born November 30, 1950 in Fargo, North Dakota to Edward A. and Susan (Bassett) Simonson. She was raised in Fargo and then attended Shattuck-St. Mary’s High School in Faribualt, Minnesota. She attended the University of Missouri where she met the love of her life, Arthur William Young and often jested that she had majored in "Art”. December 28, 1972 she and Arthur married and together they raised three daughters, Jennifer, Meg, and Betsy, and one son William (Pace).

Mardy had a heart for animals and aside from keeping a house and barn full of her own pets, she rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed a countless number of stray animals. She loved to go horseback riding, had a passion for literature, and indulged in a daily cold coffee treat. She will be remembered for her bright smile, light-hearted laugh, and kind and compassionate spirit.

Mardy is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, her daughters Jennifer Walker (Chris), Rugby, ND, Meg Scheidler (Jerome), Minneapolis, MN, Betsy Dillin (Matt), Chehalis, WA, son W. Pace Young, Portland, OR: grandchildren Cy Walker, Quinn Walker, Coy Walker, June Walker, Nora Scheidler, Alice Scheidler, Olive Dillin, and Susie Dillin; brothers Jared Simonson (Carrie), James Simonson, and John Simonson (Kelley) all of Fargo, ND; as well as several cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to your local humane society in honor of Mardy's love of animals.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral in Fargo, ND at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Terre Haute at a later date.
