Welcome to the memorial page for

Marjorie June (Gess) Clark

May 2, 1926 ~ September 17, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Marjorie (Marge) June Clark, 91, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017.  She was born in Ashland, Ohio on May 2, 1926.  She lived in Ohio, Illinois, and for most of her life, in Terre Haute,Indiana.

Marge was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, as well as a sister, aunt, and loving friend to all who knew her.  She worked as a teaching assistant with the Vigo County School Corporation for over thirty years. Her joy was working with young children and she shared with them her passion for reading. Marge loved to read mystery novels and was happy to share them with family and friends.  She was also an avid Indiana Pacers fan, and was able to attend her first Pacers game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis at the age of 86.  She followed Chicago Cubs baseball and was happy to see them win a world championship last year.

She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and had a strong and unconditional faith in God.

As a young woman, Marge was a member of a dance company which toured the Midwest.  She enjoyed telling her family stories of her travels and adventures during this period in her life.  During the early 1940s, she worked at the Delco plant south of Terre Haute, where she assembled radios for the war effort.  This is where she met the man she loved, Forest E. (Frosty) Clark, and on October 12, 1946, they were married.

They were together 46 years, until his passing on October 13, 1992.  She and Frosty had three children, all of whom survive: Brenda Clark See (Edward), Thomas D. Clark (Martha), and Forest S. Clark (Karen).  She also is survived by five grandchildren:  Kristi Fulton (Tim) of Madison, Indiana; Misti DeVore of Carmel, Indiana; Barry Clark (Colleen) of Mt. Vernon, New York; Neil Clark (Jesse) of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Holt Clark (Ashlee) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her granddaughter Rachael Clark predeceased her.  She also was loved by her five great-grandchildren, Lynsi, Alyssa, Zach, Noah and Owen, and two great-great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jaxson.

Marge was the eldest of eight children of John Gess and Opal Price Gess.  She was predeceased by her sister Bonnie, and brothers Donnie, Ronnie and Nathaniel.  She is survived by brothers Johnnie, Jerry and Conrad, and many nieces and nephews.

After her husband Frosty died, Marge was able to live independently the rest of her life.  That she could do this, even at the age of 91, is a testament to her strength, courage and faith.  She was as alert at the end as she was throughout her life.  She maintained an interest in the lives of her family and friends until the end.  (She even got a FaceBook account at the age 88 to keep track of her loved ones).

There will be a visitation at DeBaun Springhill Chapel Wednesday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:00 P.M., to be followed by burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
