Margaret June Woodsmall, 91, of Terre Haute died Thursday, June 27, 2019 surrounded by her family. June was born on May 17, 1928 to the late Robert and Lavina Easton. She was a graduate of Honey Creek High School.
June was a spitfire, an independent woman who was never afraid to speak the truth or her mind. That fire is what attracted Charles Woodsmall and prompted him to propose after only one week of courtship. June turned him down flat. But he persisted and eight months later they were wed August 19, 1948 in Mount Pleasant Church in Terre Haute.
By 1961 they moved into their longtime home in Prairieton with their four children in tow. Through the years more moves were to come, with stops in Florida and trips across the United States and Europe. Their love adventure never dimmed in the seven decades they were together.
June was a working mom too. Over the years she worked at Court House Furniture, St. Anthony Hospital for 10 years and Gibault for 10 years. She was also active in the Terre Haute Senior Citizens Kitchen Band for 25 years and the “bingo club” for 60 years.
June loved reading, crocheting and playing cards, but her real talent was in her kitchen. She was known for her baked macaroni and cheese, and it was the most requested dish wherever she went. And if she made you ski cake, you knew you were hot stuff.
June is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Charles; four children, David Woodsmall (Jill), Sue Ross (Jack), Lou Ann Theil (Martin), and Mark Woodsmall (Beth); fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
