Linus Martin Haller

Linus Martin Haller, 73, of Terre Haute, passed away, Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at his home. A celebration of life service will be held at 4pm Thursday, August 24th at St Benedict Parish 111 S. 9th. St., Terre Haute IN 47807. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm on Thursday, August 24th at St Benedict Parish prior to the service. Fr. Martin Day and

Reverend Todd Haller will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Terre Haute. Linus was born May 17th, 1944 in Tell City, Indiana to Linus A. and Wanda M. (Davis) Haller. He attended two years at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Seminary & School of Theology and graduated from Tell City High School. On April 10th, 1965 he married the former Sue Ann Ellinger in Terre Haute. Linus was a member of the United States Navy and was deployed to active duty in Germany and later Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He returned from active duty and continued service in the Navy Reserves. Linus worked as a news photographer for WTHI News. He also worked in the audio-visual department at Indiana University in Bloomington. Linus worked as video photographer for Indiana State University and managed the Audio- Visual Film library organizing the film library at ISU as well. He retired from ISU after 30 years of service there. Linus was an avid Bass fisherman organizing and belonging to the local Hoosier Big Country fishing club for several years. He served as an organizer and participant for the American Fishing Institute hosted at Indiana State University. He also served on the state board for the Indiana B.A.S.S Chapter Federation in several roles including President between

1982-1990. During these terms he led the Indiana Bass Chapter Federation in raising money to assist the Indiana DNR in the operation of new fisheries and public access to state regulated lakes. He was named the Northern Division B.A.S.S. Man of the year at the 1988 B.A.S.S. Masters classic held in Richmond, Virginia elevating the Indiana chapter to the top State Bass Chapter in the nation as well. He also led Indiana’s state B.A.S.S. chapter to receive awards for Outstanding Achievement Publication from the National B.A.S.S Chapter Federation in 1985, 1986, and 1988. Linus was a very accomplished hunter and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors during spring and fall. He spent most of his summertime on the golf course with family and friends, especially his granddaughter, Abigail, who he inspired to join the ladies golf team at Terre Haute South High School.

 

Linus is survived by his two sons, Todd Martin Haller and his wife Kathryn of Terre Haute. Anthony Martin Haller and his wife Jennifer of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Abigail and Daniel Haller, his sister Linda Paulin of Terre Haute, his sister Faye Elder of Tell City, IN; his brother Gary Haller of Huntingburg, IN. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Linus and Wanda, his brother Dennis Haller of Avon, IN. and nephew Chad Haller.
