Joe Kadel, 64, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday February 11 in Signature Health Care, where he had been a resident since July of last year. He was born September 29, 1953 to Robert and Helen Kadel. Joe was a resident at ResCare’s Woodgate South Group Home for many years where the residents and staff became a second family to him. Joe was loved by all who came in contact with him. He never met a stranger. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; special nephew Lucas Kadel; cousin Amanda Montgomery; aunts Mary Elliott (Harold), Anna Sliva, Stella Dubicz, and Julia Gronkiewicz. Joe leaves behind brothers Kent Kadel (Donna) and Marty Kadel (Lois); niece Meredith Osburn (Nick) and their children Sadie and Griffin; Cousins Jean, Jeff, Jason, Justin, Jessica, Jill and Jacqueline Dreyer, Nik, Kathy, Nikole and Brian Kadel, Kurt, Leonisa, Koly, Kevin Kadel, and Konnie Kadel Montgomery; Nephews Jon, Dean, and Adam Kadel, Jacob Thomson; nieces Christina Thomson and family; Shawna French and family; Liz and Pete Ophoven and family. Longtime girlfriend, Teresa Wellman; and many great friends. Joe was a medal winning Special Olympian. He was on ResCares resident council and proudly worked for years at his family’s business Kadel’s Hallmark Shoppes. He traveled a lot with his mother and father, then later with his brother Kent, Donna and family. Joe was a big rock and roll fan, especially The Beatles. He loved Indiana State Athletics and attended many football, baseball, and basketball games. He was a long time member of St Mark United Church of Christ and faithfully attended when he could. He loved his friends and family, and he also loved shrimp and ice tea. He will be deeply missed by all. Visitation for Joe will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel Thursday, February 15 from 10-1 pm with services starting at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Roselawn cemetery. Reverend Teresa Higus will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to either the Happiness Bag or St Mark United Church of Christ.
