Joan Bonner Obituary

Joan Bonner, 89, of Terre Haute passed away May 1, 2019 at her residence surrounded by family.  She was born May 14, 1929 in Sunderland, England to Charles Henry Kirlew and Martha Ferguson Kirlew.  Joan was a music teacher at West Vigo Middle School for many years and a 50 year member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church serving in the Daughters of the King.  She was also very active in the community volunteering with CASA, Happiness Bag, and a member of the Vigo County Friends of the Library. 

Joan is survived by sons John Bonner (Megan Price) and David Bonner (Janice); grandchildren Andrea Bayles (Jordan), Rachel Swift, James Swift, Sarah Hughes, Nicholas Bennett (Hannah), and Rebecca Habing (Devon), and eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years John Robert Bonner who passed away in 2007, daughter Joanne Swift, and brother Charles Kirlew. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time.  Reverend Drew Downs will be officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Joan to Happiness Bag.  DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
