James E. Tryon Sr. passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at his residence in Blackhawk Indiana less than one mile from where he was born. Jim married Martha V. (Hause) on December 22, 1956 in Acton Indiana. They shared 63 years of marriage together.
Born at home in Blackhawk he was the son of Hobart and Bernice (Johnson) Tryon. Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He built his business, Tryon Brothers Welding and Fabrication in 1967 and built the landmark Hillbilly Corner in Blackhawk. In his business he fabricated various structures, equipment modifications, and conveyors. Tryon Brothers did work at many of the area industries performing maintenance and installing equipment.
Jim enjoyed working, spending time with his wife and family, and fishing. He teased the grandkids and gave dollar bills out to the kids. Many will remember Hillbilly Jim. He has left us all with many memories that will not be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Martha, sister Erma Tryon of Terre Haute, children Jim Jr. of Terre Haute, Jess and Eva (Knopp) of Blackhawk, Cathe and Ralph Peeler of Fairbanks, Beth Charles of Tampa, Florida, and Sheri McCord of Westfield. Also surviving him are fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Hobart and Bernice (Johnson) Tryon, brothers Junior, Bill, Paul, and Tom and sisters Wilma, Evahlyn, and Genevive (Checkie).
Visitation will be Monday, October 14, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Reverend Jeff Lee will be officiating.
