Georgia Pegg

Georgia Pegg, 52, died at her home in Terre Haute on August 3, 2017 following a six-month illness from a rare cancer.   She was born Nov. 26, 1964 in Lompoc, California to James Carruthers and Cheri Dowers.

Georgia is survived by her mother, Cheri Dowers; son Travis Pegg and daughter Ciara Bland; and beloved grandchildren, Lilee and Caven, all of Terre Haute; brothers, Mark (Becky) Smith of Terre Haute and Chuck (Shannon) Smith of Indianapolis; sister, Robyn (Tim) Kelly of Fairland; aunts, Billie Buchannan of Georgia and Donna (Cliff) VanCamp of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends.   She was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents; and her dear friend, Connie Symon.  

Georgia was a high school graduate and attended Ivy Tech College.  But her real school was the natural world.  From earliest childhood, Georgia loved the outdoors, learning much from her great grandpa, Tom Mellin.  As an adult, her favorite activities, besides spending time with her grandchildren, were hunting mushrooms in the spring, harvesting ginseng in the fall, and fishing or kayaking when the weather and water were right.

Georgia always worked hard to support her family and to help anyone in need.  For the last ten  years, she was a sales associate at the Apple House, where she assisted thousands of customers with her knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees.  She also made many friends there.

“When it was time, the tree came to rest on the forest floor.  And slowly gave itself back to the earth from which young saplings sprang anew.”

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday August 11, 2017at 6:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Mark Mahaney presiding.  Visitation will take place before the service beginning at 4:00 pm.
