Donald Lee Trendelman, 91, of Gosport, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2019. He was born May 2, 1927, to William and Ethel (Sully) Trendelman.
Don was a long-time church member of First Prairie Creek Baptist Church, Owensburg Baptist Church, and Bloomington Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher and superintendent, ordained deacon and trustee. One of the highlights of his spiritual journey was attending and serving in Emmaus walks.
Don was employed by Indiana Bell Telephone Company where he started as a lineman and worked his way up through the ranks to engineering and management before retiring after 32 years. A move to Arizona and California resulted in Don’s employment with International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation. In retirement, Don enjoyed auctions and spending time with family.
Don is survived by his wife of 72 years, Norma Jean Trendelman, whom he married December 24, 1946; five children, Michael Lee Trendelman, Patricia Ann Chidester (George), Mark Allen Trendelman (Sheri), Donna Jean Smith (Daniel), and Kimberly Sue Jones (William); 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; as well as two nephews, Carl and Chris Trendelman, and a niece, Leanora Trendelman-Hicks; in addition to numerous relatives (in-laws) of Jean’s. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Fred and Glen Trendelman, daughter-in-law Sharon Trendelman, Jon Michael Burch.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5th at the Prairie Creek First Baptist Church, with services to follow. Pastor Kevin Dobson will be officiating. Burial will follow services at Pogue Cemetery in Fairbanks, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s honor to Gideons International (www.gideons.org) for the distribution of Bibles. DeBaun Funeral Homes assisted with arrangements.
