Donald R. Stephens, 82, lifelong Vigo County resident, passed away October 24, 2018 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born October 31, 1935 to Charles R. and Alta Fagg Stephens. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and was the owner/operator of his own excavating business. He also was a member of Southside Church of Christ, International Union of Operating Engineers Local # 841, a 50 year member of Riley Masonic Lodge # 390 F&AM, Zorah Shrine, and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. He had formerly belonged to the Elks, Sycamore Country Club, and the Land Improvement Contractor’s Association. He was a veteran of the US Army having served from 1958-1960. His survivors include his wife of 38 years, Shawnette (Daugherty) Stephens, sons Greg Stephens and his wife Amy, Erik Lumsdon and his wife Heather; daughter Traci Hart and her husband Frank; sisters Carol Williams, Eula Stephens, Connie Jacobs (Joe), Kathy Stephens, and Karen Jeffers (Greg) ; grandchildren Betsy Bartee (Brandon), Patrick Hart (Lauren), Shaelee Stephens, Ethan Lumsdon, Kenna Stephens, Eli Lumsdon, and Karson Hart. He has one great-grandson Phoenix Bartee and numerous extended family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale Stephens. Funeral services will be Saturday at 6 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Grubb officiating. Cremation will follow. Calling will be from 2 p.m. until service time. Riley Masonic Lodge will give their memorial at 6 pm. Military honors will be at 2:00p.m. by Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard.
